about

The rum fits: an old coin of phrase used by sailors to describe the effects of heavy booze withdrawal. A Rum Fit Mosey is one’s ability to sing and dance their way out of it.

RUM FIT MOSEY’s debut EP entitled: Singles & Filters, is an ongoing collection of carefully crafted, spooky, sultry, soul ballads, describing times of complex struggle, loneliness, self-alienation, and confusion. Rum Fit Mosey isn’t all but a precarious portrayal of one artists flirtation with an over indulgence in darkness, but a true example of a person’s ability to remain hopeful in hopeless times; all the while commandeering each unique version of one’s self to have a welcomed seat at the table.

The idea behind the title of the record is that this collection of songs will remain unfinished well after its release. Singles & Filters will continue to be recorded and added to, as the journey back into the light and levity of song writing is restored, and fully brought back to life.

Track Name: In Four Words
In Four Words

when you had me on the ropes
I didn't realize that you'd leave me here alone
It's been a year and the bloods run dry
this beating in my chest that reminds me I'm alive

I've thought of places I could run
I'm certain that these ghosts inside me would tag alone
so I'll stay and I'll live my pain
it would break my momma's heart
if I took off anyway

As long as you know
nothing's gonna make my heart move
backwards in four words
you scream I don't love you
I won't run away from those four words
backwards in four words

backwards in four words
backwards in four words
backwards in four words

The guilt I feel's an endless rain
hard to know what happened
always drunk and half insane
these ideas in my head won't cave
like I'm a product on a shelf
that just needs a brand new name

I only drink now so I don't dream
it's when I'm drying out
these monkeys on my back
they kick and scream
had one the other day, crush my heart
hard to know regret when in your dreams
there's no more bars
you know...

nothing's gonna make my heart move
you scream I don't love you
won't move backwards in four words

Nothing's gonna make my heart move
backwards in four words
backwards in four words
backwards in four words
backwards in four words

Hard to imagine ever feeling anything
for another when you feel this low
I don't blame you for wanting out
It's like a death that you never get to mourn
when she's living up the street from you
my excuses are way too loud
backwards in four words

Nothing's gonna make my heart move
backwards in four words
backwards in four words
backwards in four words
backwards in four words
Track Name: My Gears are Broke
Gears Are Broke

Black heart momma you’re a slippery slope
I got my tattooed veins, they’re just itchin for smoke
And my gears are broke
So you can’t grind them no more

Now I’m a dead man standing out in the rain
It’s falling hard on my head, some dude’s begging for change
In his eyes no hope
Here’s a buck, I got no more

Oh man to hell with your time
All my dreams they spoke
And everybody knows
Nothing’s gonna bring her home

Blackheart momma you’re a slippery slope
I got my drunk frames on and now I’m lookin for coke
My inhibitions choke
They can’t find me no more

I try and remember all the ways we were wrong
And how you hurt me so bad like I just didn’t belong
Do you still hate my songs?
Well you can’t sing them no more

Aw man to hell with your time
All my dreams they spoke
And everybody knows
Nothing’s gonna bring her home
Aw man to hell with your lines
All my drugs got smoked
And everybody knows
Nothing’s gonna bring her home

I stare at this frozen moon
As I create my new life
Cause’ I know now
That my past has truly died
I hope I run into you soon, and you see that I’m alright
I’d like to think you’d care if I’m alive

Black heart momma you’re a slippery slope
I got my tattooed veins, they’re just itchin for smoke
And my gears are broke
So you can’t grind them no more

Aw man to hell with your time
All my dreams they spoke
And everybody knows
Nothing’s gonna bring her home
Aw man to hell with your lines

Aw man to hell with your lines
All my drugs got smoked
And everybody knows
Nothing’s gonna bring her home
Track Name: Little Windows
Little Windows

My heart has settled down
Welcome to the dream I’m having
The star, Beatrice it’s you
I thought that you should know

Take my swollen hands
They’ve just been all tattooed
Ink’s drying, your face
Can’t you see that face?
Beatrice it’s you

And when I dream now, I dream hard
And I get these little windows
These tiny little windows
They’re like bursts of light in the dark
And they’re helping me to let go
Oh can’t you see me letting go?

The freedom in this place
Has brought me back to broken highways
You died, you’re mother asked me why
I told her you’d be back with the morning light

Now the room is full of faces from my father’s past
He’s survived, by my brothers’ mom and I
And then he called me on the phone
And when I dream now, I dream hard
And I get these little windows
These tiny little windows
They’re like bursts of light in the dark
And they’re helping me to let go
Honey won’t you let me go?
Well I swear this shit’s better than drugs
You forgetful little fellow I’ve known ya since the get go
When I dream now I dream hard
And get this little windows
These tiny little windows

Who’s painting nightmares on my wall?
The light make shadows of us all
Who’s painting nightmares on my wall?
The light makes shadows of us all
Who’s painting nightmares on my wall?
The light makes shadows of us all
Who’s painting nightmares on my wall?
The light makes shadows of us all
Who’s painting nightmares on my wall?
The light makes shadows of us all

And when I dream now
I dream hard
And get these little windows
These tiny little windows
Track Name: Salvation Mountain
Salvation Mountain

disconnected harbored hatred
I could be the one to save ya
I could be, but I am not the one

we had our time for that I'm grateful
praying friendships turn like tables
see I believe, there's more to this than love

who's that man who hold you like the air he breaths
well it ain't me
it ain't me
it ain't me
it ain't me

the only cross that holds the hope
where all the girls scream - holy smokes!
he's 31, he'd better be the one
fireworks and pull the smoke down to your heart
hang onto her now
go do your your life
you'll know when she's the one

who's that man who hold you like the air he breaths
treats you perfect, and buys you that diamond wedding ring
has no doubts inside his heart that you're all
well it ain't me
it ain't me
it ain't me
it ain't me

time is ticking
dad is dying
we're all brave faces
none are crying
I guess this is the calm before the floor
so wake up early
eggs and bacon
tie your shoes
there's no more faking
go do what's right
and break her heart for love

who's that man who hold you like the air he breaths
treats you perfect, and buys you that diamond wedding ring
has no doubts inside his heart that you're all his
well it ain't me
it ain't me
it ain't me
it ain't me
Track Name: Quittin Cigs (Funeral Song)
Quittin Cigs (Funeral Song)

I saw your squinting little eyes
They were staring at me through a tear storm
My old man had just died
I didn’t know you’d wanna come see me
Struggling strong beside a priest
to find some tired old tribute song I wrote inside a head cold
blackened out hard, I cast a silhouette across a crowd of folks
my dad sold cars too

And they’ve all showed up to catch a glimpse of what it’s like
To lose you
they’ve all showed up to catch a glimpse of what it’s like
To lose you
they’ve all showed up to catch a glimpse of what it’s like
To lose you

We’ve been catching blue nosed dimes
They decorate the top of his brand new ashes
Each pack of cigarettes I buy
Get swallowed by a centro mer blue sea
Cognition’s now iginited by the sound
Of two simultaneously strummed G and E chords
I never knew much about the angels
Until I felt one’s warmth pressed upon my young lung

And they’ve all showed up to catch a glimpse of what it’s like
To lose you
they’ve all showed up to catch a glimpse of what it’s like
To lose you
they’ve all showed up to catch a glimpse of what it’s like
To lose you
And they’ve all showed up to catch a glimpse of what it’s like
To lose you
they’ve all showed up to catch a glimpse of what it’s like

Motorcycles occupy my mind
I’m like three or four waiting on the parade
What kind of exhaust pipes should I buy?
I was thinking those loud cobras
The kind the Franco cops just hate
We can ride the old roads down to Nevada
I can show you where I broke down
And where the Yankees kept me safe
That self-taught parking lot transmission
Was the best fucking decision I ever made

And they’ve all showed up to catch a glimpse of what it’s like
To lose you
they’ve all showed up to catch a glimpse of what it’s like
To lose you
they’ve all showed up to catch a glimpse of what it’s like
To lose you
And they’ve all showed up to catch a glimpse of what it’s like
To lose you
they’ve all showed up to catch a glimpse of what it’s like
To lose you
Track Name: Orange Blood
Everyone knows there comes a time
when all the truth inside comes screaming out
and breaks a window in your house
and makes
a terrible mess
you cut your feet
and the paint the streets
with sneaky blood
the kind that's orange in the sun

and people think it's from
wet leaves
left behind by tired trees

It isn't the change we make that's hard
it's making choices we can live with honestly
and not burn holes into our hearts
making the songs you know belong
to all the folks who sing long
and will write the words
if you get sick and disappear into dreams
no one hurts here in between
we've all got dreams
no nothing hurts here in between

Time breaks us down until we fit
into that wheel that spins around for money
don't you know that you will never fit
there's more like you
yes there's more like you than you admit

A break in the day
you work the one along the howling winds
that blows the doors apart
and turns the head who pays for art

I'm different this time
I'm much more shy
but much more certain of where I belong
and who I am in from old ancestral dream

I'm hearing indigenous screams
made by machines
I can't pretend that I don't see

Time breaks us down until we fit
into that wheel that spins around for money
don't you know that you will never fit
there's more like you
yes there's more like you than you admit

Time breaks us down until we fit
into that wheel that spins around for money
don't you know that you will never fit
be more like you
just be more like you
I swear man be more like you
be more like you than you wanna admit

Everyone knows there comes a time
when all the truth inside comes screaming out
and breaks a window in your house
and makes
a terrible mess
you cut your feet
and the paint the streets
with sneaky blood
the kind that's orange in the sun
